WAXING
HOW LONG SHOULD I GROW OUT MY HAIR?
Typically, it’s easier to go by “weeks” instead of actual hair length. We generally recommend waiting at least three weeks between waxes. The sweet spot is between 5-6 weeks, depending on your personal hair growth. We can work with only three weeks growth, but if you wait five weeks, your results will last longer and you’ll experience less sensitivity during removal.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT WITH MY FIRST WAX? WILL IT BE PAINFUL?
Our goal is to make your waxing experience as easy and comfortable as possible. You may feel slightly uncomfortable, especially if it’s your first time. If your hair is short or recently shaved, it can actually be more painful. We will talk you through your appointment and try to take your mind off the process. The following conditions can also play a role in your pain level: If you are close to your period, drank caffeine, are hungover, stressed, or tired. Know that you will always be the most uncomfortable your very first time. But also know that it will get easier and you will experience less sensitivity especially if you stop shaving and come back every 5-7 weeks (depending on hair growth). We love our job and we try to make waxing as quick and painless as possible.
HOW LONG WILL MY WAX LAST?
If the hair is completely grown out at the time of your wax, your wax should last about 5 weeks. Approximately one week from your wax hair will slowly start sprouting up. Then, over the course of the next few weeks, other cycles will start growing in.
CAN I WAX ON MY PERIOD?
Absolutely. We are totally fine if you are comfortable. You will actually experience less sensitivity during this time compared to right before your period starts. We just ask that you please wear a tampon. We may have to move your tampon string, which can be a little awkward for you, but it’s better than the wax getting stuck and pulling it out.
CAN I WAX WHILE I'M PREGNANT?
Waxing throughout your pregnancy is completely safe. If you are wanting to be cleaned up prior to your delivery, we recommend scheduling your appointment two weeks before your due date.
WHAT TYPE OF WAX DO YOU USE?
We use a high-quality wax called Ceripil. Depending on the type of hair or area, we will use both strip wax and hard wax. Strip wax is used on larger body parts. Hard wax is always used for Brazilian waxes. For your face or underarm area we will use whatever best suits the hair type.
WHEN IS IT NOT SAFE TO WAX?
1. If you are being treated for acne or have had a recent facial peel, it is not safe to get waxed. Certain acne skin care products make the skin extremely sensitive and can cause lifting. Please note that these include both over-the-counter creams as well as those prescribed by doctors. Rentin-A products should also never be used while waxing. Please stop use at least two weeks prior to any waxing service on the face.
2. When you are using medication that recommends you stay out of the sun you should not get waxed.
3. If you are sunburned, you should not get waxed.
WHAT SHOULD I KNOW FOR AFTERCARE?
To avoid irritation or bumps, no hot showers, baths, hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas, working out or tanning for at least 24 hours. It is recommended to avoid friction, such as tight clothing or sex. If red bumps occur we recommend Desitin, diaper rash cream. For ingrown hairs, our number 1 recommendation is Tend Skin.
SPRAY TANNING
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR AN AIRBRUSH SPRAY TAN?
Make sure you come shaved, exfoliated and/or waxed. It is best to wait 24-48 hours after a wax to get spray tanned. Wear dark loose clothing, flip flops are best. Come without make-up and bring something to tie up your hair. You can lightly moisturize your hand, elbows, knees and feet. We do have lotion at the studio.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FOR AFTER?
Depending on what solution you and your esthetician decide on you will want to plan on showering 30 minutes-6 hours hours after your appointment. The mocha solution has a higher DHA which will tan you the fastest, 30-90 minutes. (Great for a later evening appointment.) The Rapid tan solution will tan you in 2-4 hours. The standard solution takes as long as 6 hours. Some people choose to sleep with the product still on. It may get on your sheets, but will wash off.
Plan on skipping the gym or anything to make you sweat until after your first shower.
Your tan can last up to 5 days, sometimes longer. It depends on your skin renewal process, how often you are in water and your skin's moisture. There are home products that you can purchase to make your tan last longer.
